Stefano Colombo

Stefano Colombo is an Italian Patent Attorney and a European Patent Attorney, as well as an Italian Trademark Attorney and a representative at EUIPO. He is also qualified as European Patent Litigator before the future Unified Patent Court (UPC).

He attended a master in Intellectual Property in 1992 and then joined a patent law firm in Milan. After some years, he had a training period in USA with Darby & Darby, New York, and took a course to become a US patent agent. Then, he left the private practice and joined the IP department of the telecommunication company Alcatel where he became world wide Lead Counsel for wireless transmissions. In 2002 he left Alcatel and became partner of Marchi & Partners.

He acquired a wide technical experience in drafting and prosecuting patents in the mechanical field during his activity in the private practice and in drafting and prosecuting patents in the electronic/telecom field when he was in-house attorney for Alcatel. He also made a large experience in trademarks and designs.

His practice also includes the preparation of infringement and validity opinions, assisting clients in infringement and invalidity lawsuits in Italy and in oppositions/appeals with the European Patent Office.

He also deals with designs and trademarks both in Italy, European Union and the main other countries.

Stefano is a member of the Disciplinary Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office. He also was member of EQE (European Qualifying Examination) Committee I from 2002 to 2014. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of AIPPI from 2008 to 2020. When he was working in industry, he was in the Executive Committee of AICIPI, the Italian association of IP experts working for companies and corporations.

Education: Politecnico di Milano, graduated in Aeronautical Engineering
(specialization in Aerospace Systems, 1992).
