Silvia Merli is a European Patent Attorney specialized in pharmaceutical field with an extensive experience in biotechnology. She is also Italian patent attorney and EUIPO representative.
She has been working as a researcher at the NIH (National Institute of Health, USA) for two years and then she joined a small company, Tecnogen, a consortium of six Italian pharmaceutical companies where she led the Molecular Biology Unit.
She prosecuted her research activities at the Ospedale San Raffaele as a Guest Researcher and then joined the Technology Transfer Office of the same institution to assist the IP transfer activities. She gained her Patent Attorney experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical fields working for 10 years in the Patent Firm Notarbartolo & Gervasi, after which she became manager of the Milano IP office at Bracco Imaging where she has been working for 7 years.
Silvia joined Marchi & Partners patent firm in 2017.
While in Bracco Imaging, she gained an extensive experience in the filing and prosecution of patent applications on the synthesis of imaging agents, optimization of their preparation and in the synthesis and formulation of APIs. She also frequently dealt with Patentability and Freedom to Operate opinions in these fields and in the pharmaceutical field. She acquired experience in the patent portfolio management, as well as in the IP management of research agreements with partners from private companies and Academic Institutions. She has been also involved in the draft and finalization of the Consortium agreement for the IP management of EU-funded research (Horizon 2020).
