Giulia Pietra is a qualified European and Italian Patent Attorney specialized in the Electronic and Telecommunication fields.


She acquired significant technical experience in the Electro-optical field (in particular, optical devices for telecommunication systems) working as designer of integrated optic components for Pirelli Labs Optical Innovation in Milan, Italy. During her activity as designer, she was designated inventor for a number of patent applications.

She joined Marchi & Partners in 2004, where she gained a significant experience in drafting patent applications and handling prosecution before the European Patent Office and many foreign patent offices (e.g. USPTO, SIPO, JPO), in particular in the fields of telecommunication technologies (WDM, SDH/SONET, Ethernet, access networks such as GSM, UMTS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and telecommunication services (telephony, Internet access, video-on-demand). Her practice also includes the preparation of infringement and validity opinions and assisting clients in infringement and validity lawsuits in Italy and in opposition/appeal procedures before the EPO.

She also trained at Darby & Darby, New York, in 2008.

Since 2010, she has been involved as tutor in the training activities offered by the EPI (European Patent Institute) to EQE (European Qualifying Examination) candidates.

Education: University of Pavia, Italy - Graduated cum laude in Electro-optical engineering (2000).
